WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah men's team dominated possession en route to a 5-1 conference win over Guilford College Saturday morning. The Hornets (5-3-2, 2-1-1) got goals from
Chinedu Ikem,
Nathan Yared, and
Kyle Welch to push Shenandoah past the Quakers (2-9-1, 0-4-1.)
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Hornets outshot the Quakers 17-4 in the contest and 10-1 with shots on goal.
Shenandoah also had the edge in corner kick opportunities, with seven compared to the Quakers' three corners.
Travis Jett got the start in goal and gave up the lone Quaker goal.
Nathan Lynch would come in late in the second to close out the game and did not face any shots.
Nathan Yared led all players with four shots, two of those on goal, and scored on both.

HOW IT HAPPENED
From the opening whistle, the Hornets were all over the Quakers with shots from
Maynor Menendez and
Devin Kohout but it was not until the 10
th minute that the Hornets would get on the board after Ikem found the back of the net. Shenandoah continued to apply pressure with shots from
Connor Robles that Quaker goalie saved keeping the deficit to one. The Hornets would earn a corner kick in the 19
th minute but were not able to capitalize. But after a turnover, left the ball in the Guilford defensive end,
Nathan Yared would take a pass from
Connor Robles and bury the shot for the game-winning goal, his first of the day.
In the 29
th minute,
Kyle Welch joined the scoring party when he slotted a ball through the keepers' legs to put the Hornets up 3-1. Under five minutes later, the Quakers tried to get some momentum back when they took advantage of a misplayed ball deep in the Hornets zone, and Jesse Guzman, chipped a ball over
Travis Jett's head to cut the lead to 3-1.
Right before the half, the Hornets benefitted off of a Guildford miscue and increased the lead 4-1 on an own goal. In the 53
rd minute, Yared would score his second of the day to put the game completely out of reach.
UP NEXT
The Hornets are back in action as they will continue conference play, welcoming Hampden-Sydney to town Wednesday evening. Kick off for that game is slated for 7 p.m.
