Men's Basketball Extinguishes Wilson College

Hornets Go 2-0 For First Time Since 2016-17

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball game won its second straight game with a 75-52 home win versus Wilson College on Wednesday night.

Behind three players with double-digit points the Hornets (2-0) have its best start to a season since 2016-17 after beating the Phoenix (1-2). SU went 2-0 in the fall of 2016 after defeating WC, 82-47, at the Body Renew Tip-Off Classic.

IN BRIEF

Wilson held the lead early in the game with a 7-3 advantage behind a made three-pointer. Four points by Nic Pullum brought Shenandoah back even with the visitors. Layups by Jaylen Williams and Joshua Stephen gave SU the lead for good just 6:30 into the game.

Stephen pushed the lead to nine for Shenandoah with a jumper, a pair of free throws, and a layup. Stephen wrapped up the night with nine points.

As the Phoenix started to crawl back, Cade McCulloch hit a layup to give Shenandoah the eight-point lead heading into the half.

Shortly into the second half, Evan Makle swished a three forcing Wilson to regroup and call a timeout as the Hornets led 43-28. The timeout worked for the visitors as they brought their deficit down to 44-38.

Over the last 5:58 of the game the Shenandoah defense proved itself, as they held Wilson scoreless. Six points late by Williams put the Hornets up big and a made basket by Anthony Cowan put the final touches on a Hornets victory.

Gavin Bizyak and Williams brought in eight rebounds each as the Hornets had a total of 42 boards compared to the 32 by the opposition. Offensively SU made 10 three-pointers and shot just under 50% from the floor.
