Women's Basketball Falls to Catholic on Day Two of RMC Tip-Off Tournament

ASHLAND, Va. - In its second game of the Randolph-Macon Tip-Off Tournament, the Shenandoah University women's basketball team lost 70-57 in a Saturday afternoon game versus Catholic University.

The Hornets (3-2) once again outscored its opposition in the second half but were held to under 30% shooting in the first half by the Cardinals (5-0), as the Cardinals made 13 threes in their win.

RECAP

It was all Catholic early as they jumped out to a 13-4 lead halfway through the first. They used that momentum to take a 24-9 lead to the second. The 15-point differential was in large part to the five made threes by the Cardinals in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Emily Williams and Maggie Rooklin got the Hornets on the board first to begin the second as SU cut into the deficit. Catholic pulled their lead all the way to 21 before the Hornets closed out the half with a pair of threes from Maddie Kimble and Terese Greene, plus a layup by Shawnise Campbell. A basket at the end of the half from Catholic put them up 41-23 at the break.

Shenandoah made three of its first four shots in the second half as Williams and Campbell each picked up points in the paint with Kimble showing her range from downtown. SU pulled within 14 at the end of three, holding CUA scoreless for the final 3:32 of the quarter.

In the fourth, for every basket Shenandoah made, Catholic responded with one of its own. SU once again held the opponent scoreless for the final minutes of a quarter but the deficit was too big to come back from, as Catholic took the win.

Kimble led the Hornets in scoring with 15 points, adding four assists and five rebounds. Kayla Maxson (9), Williams (8), and Greene (7) came together for 40% of the team's total points.

Shenandoah grabbed 14 offensive rebounds to go along with 20 on the defensive side of the court.
