Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BALTIMORE, Md. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team finished its 2023 season at the Johns Hopkins Quad Match on Saturday in games against Franklin and Marshall and the hosts, No. 12 Johns Hopkins.

The Hornets (8-20) were swept in the opening match versus the Diplomats (18-6) while winning a set in a 3-1 loss to the nationally-ranked Blue Jays (23-4).

FRANKLIN AND MARSHALL RECAP

The Diplomats won the match by winning the three sets 25-11, 25-22, 25-16. Shenandoah held an early 4-3 lead in the first set with kills by Aaliyah Chunn and Brooke Gast helping SU get there. The Diplomats took the lead back at 5-4 and held the Hornets from regaining it, largely thanks to a 12-2 run making it 17-6. Gast added the final SU point in the set before Franklin and Marshall closed the set out with two consecutive points.

Set two was much closer as SU fought back and tied the set at 11 after falling behind 9-3 just minutes in. The Hornets took advantage of three straight attack errors and multiple kills from Reagan Minney to get the tie. Minney gained two more kills to make it 13-12 in favor of Shenandoah. The Diplomats created another run of their own until the Hornets once again cut the deficit to one, 22-23, but SU couldn't tie it as the Diplomats won the set.

In the third set, Franklin and Marshall jumped out to an 11-6 lead to pull away from SU and get closer to a match win. Shenandoah did get multiple kills by Jillian Warter, Chunn and Minney in the set but the Diplomats had four runs of three or more points to keep the set out of reach for SU.

Minney led Shenandoah with 10 kills in the match while Kylie Danella provided 16 assists. Senior Natalie Reader led all players with 11 digs.

JOHNS HOPKINS RECAP

The Blue Jays won the match 3-1 (25-14, 25-27, 25-18, 25-13) as the Hornets won the tightly contested second set to even up the match early on.

Shenandoah had five players pick up a kill for eight total as Danella assisted on six kills during the set. One of the Danella assists tied the set, 2-2, as Warter picked up the point with one of her two kills in the first.

Johns Hopkins scored the first four points of set two before Shenandoah rallied back to take the lead 8-7 and later pushed it to a six-point lead at 13-9 and 16-10. The Hornets later scored five straight points forcing set point at 24-16. The Blue Jays didn't back down as they flew back to tie the set up. The hosts then flipped the script on SU, as it was SU now facing set point at 24-25. Two Blue Jays errors and a final kill from Minney gave SU the set win, 27-25.

Johns Hopkins closed out the match by winning the final two sets and not allowing Shenandoah to have the lead at all for the final sets. The Hornets were able to tie the third set twice at 2-2 and 3-3 before the Blue Jays pulled away.

Warter and Minney tied for a team-high eight kills in the match with Chunn right behind them with seven. Emma Thompson provided a pair of aces in the match as well.
