WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University men's basketball team will attempt to make history Tuesday night as it travels to seventh-seeded Virginia Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. ODAC Tournament first round contest.

Tenth-seeded Shenandoah (7-18) meets the No. 7 Virginia Wesleyan (16-8) for the right to take on second-seeded Hampden-Sydney in Friday's 6 p.m. quarterfinal round contest at the Salem Civic Center.

HISTORY
An SU victory over the Marlins will give Coach Nick Doyle's program two things it has never experienced before – an ODAC Tournament win and a victory over Doyle's alma mater.

The men's basketball team is 0-8 lifetime in ODAC Tournament play, dating back to the 2013 tourney, and is winless in 20 matchups with Virginia Wesleyan dating back to Dec. 8, 1992.

SU and VWU have never met in ODAC Tournament play.

This season, Virginia Wesleyan was a 71-55 winner in Winchester on Jan. 18 and a 77-60 victor in Virginia Beach 10 days ago.

SCOUTING SHENANDOAH
Shenandoah enters the contest 12th in the league in scoring at 62.7 points per game and ninth in team defense, 72.3 ppg.

The Hornets have a negative 5.1 rebounding margin, 37.8 per contest, and are sixth in assists at 11.2 apg.

Junior Malik Jordan leads Doyle's club with a 13.8 points per game scoring average with senior Davion Roberts hitting for 11.4 ppg. Roberts, a guard, leads on the boards with 5.3 rebounds per contest.

Shenandoah shoots 38.6 from the field this season and is making 32 percent of its 3-point attempts.

SCOUTING VIRGINIA WESLEYAN
Virginia Wesleyan is 10th in the league in scoring, 67.3 ppg, but fourth in defense at an even 63 points allowed per outing.

Like Shenandoah, the Marlins have a negative rebounding average, giving up 1.3 boards more than they gain per contest, but their 14.3 assists per game is second in the league.

Sophomore Omari Deveaux paces VWU in scoring, 14.4 ppg, with classmate Amarion Wilson right behind at 11.3 per outing. Wilson is the Marlins top rebounder at 5.3 per game.

Virginia Wesleyan shoots 43 percent from the field and 31 percent from beyond the arc.

COACHES
Doyle, in his first season as the Hornets head coach, both played for and coached with Marlins head coach Dave Macedo at Virginia Wesleyan. Doyle is 7-18 in his first season as a head coach while Macado is 468-174 in 23 seasons at VWU. He has led the Marlins to five ODAC titles and the 2006 national championship.
