WINCHESTER, Va. – Visiting Bridgewater College rallied for a 60-53 ODAC women's basketball victory over Shenandoah Saturday afternoon at the James R. Wilkins, Jr. Athletics & Events Center.
Â
Shenandoah (13-8, 8-6 ODAC) led by six, 44-38, as the fourth quarter dawned, but could not hold off Bridgewater (15-5, 10-4) over the final 10 minutes.
Â
IN BRIEF
The Eagles opened the fourth with an 8-0 run to take a lead they would not relinquish.
Â
The Hornets, who struggled to a 12-of-22 performance from the line (55 percent), saw
Terese Greene make 1 of 2 at 6:20 to break the scoreless streak and make it 46-45, but the damage was done.
Â
After Bridgewater used a jumper and a 1 of 2 performance of its own at the line to extend its lead to four, 49-45, with 5:16 remaining sophomore
Gabby Krystofiak brought the Alumnae Day crowd to their collective feet with a '3' at 4:08 that cut the SU deficit to one, 49-48.
Â
Unfortunately, this would prove to be the hosts' high-water mark. BC made 7 of its final 8 from the line, including six straight to start, down the stretch and added three defensive rebounds to prevent the Hornets from staging a comeback of their own.
Â
Greene led all scorers with 24 points with
Shawnise Campbell adding 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Â
The Hornets shot 35 percent (19 of 54) to 32 percent for Bridgewater (19 of 54) and had a 41-37 edge on the glass.
Â
Bridgewater also scored 16 points off of 20 Shenandoah turnovers.
