Women's Soccer Controls Mustangs

Hornets Win, 1-0

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team defeated Stevenson University, 1-0, Wednesday in a non-conference match at Shentel Stadium.

The Hornets (5-1-1) game-winning goal came in the 5th minute, as the Hornets controlled possession in the win over the Mustangs (2-2-3).

IN BRIEF
Kayla Jenkins gained a break-a-way off a through ball from Kaitlyn Wahl, from 17 yards outside the box, dribbling it into the box and shooting it past the Mustangs for the game's only goal.

Shenandoah's offense stayed in control for the foreseeable future and got five more shots within the next 15 minutes. The Hornets had 15 shots in the first half while keeping Stevenson from getting one of its own.

The Hornets played strong on the backline for the whole match as they didn't allow the Mustangs to get any chances at the equalizer.

In the final half, Shenandoah put three shots on goal that were all saved by Stevenson's Courtney Wysokowski. Wysokowski made nine stops in the game as SU continued to apply the pressure.

Karissa Dominick and Kasie Kilmer split time in net for Shenandoah, with Dominick starting the game.

Shenandoah now has five wins in the first seven games, matching last year's team win total through seven games.
