Guilford Sweeps Volleyball

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team got swept by Guilford College in a Saturday morning ODAC home contest.

The Quakers (12-2, 3-0 ODAC) only trailed five times in the three sets in their win over the Hornets (5-8, 1-3).

IN BRIEF

Guilford won the first set, 25-17, after falling behind early twice in the opening minutes. Shenandoah overcame early deficits with two separate 5-point runs, taking a 10-7 lead. Guilford responded with a run of its own and never gave up the lead again for the remainder of the set.

The Hornets struck first in set two on a kill by Emma Thompson, assisted by Abby Litchenfels. Guilford ended up pulling ahead and taking the set 25-17, taking advantage of two SU errors at the very end.

In the third set, the teams traded the lead early and often with Shenandoah going up by multiple points. The visitors wouldn't let them have the lead long as they scored eight straight times to take full control. The 8-point run was a part of a larger 15-4 run to end the set and the match.

Jillian Warter led SU in kills with 10, while Litchenfels led the team with 22 assists.
