Hornets and Generals Battle to a Draw

LEXINGTON, Va – The Shenandoah University women's soccer returned to the pitch for a midweek conference match-up at Washington and Lee.  90 minutes was not enough to determine a winner as the Hornets (5-2-2, 0-1-1) would tie the Generals (5-0-2, 1-0-1) 2-2.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

The Generals outshot the Hornets 28 to 5, and led with 10 shots on goal compared to Shenandoah's two shots on frame.
W&L also had the edge in corner kicks, 8-5.
Karissa Dominick made eight saves on the afternoon, while the Generals' netminder only made one save.

HOW IT HAPPENED

It was a scoreless first half, as both teams struggled to crack the defense of the other team.  Shenandoah was not able to get a shot off in the first half, but Dominick and the backline did a great job fending off the attack of the Generals who made a late first-half push.  But, after 45 minutes of play, both teams went to the locker room tied at 0.

After the break, the Generals would strike first in the 49th minute to jump out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from Sophie Berman.  Five minutes later, the Hornets would erase the deficit when a corner kick was served into the box, and the General goalie mishandled the ball and SU would be the beneficiaries of an own goal.  On a quick counter-attack, the Generals would strike again in the 61st minute to regain the lead 2-1.  Peyton Lubinsky would find the back of the net in the 69th minute, for her first of the season, on a ball from Lauren Duffy to level the score at 2.  The Hornets would make a final push on a shot from Kayla Jenkins, but the General netminder made a huge save the game would end in a 2-2 tie.
