Hornets Place Two on Podium at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Shenandoah University wrestling team was back on the mat competing in the D. Kenneth Ober Memorial Invitational hosted by Elizabethtown College on Saturday.  For the event, the Hornets placed two on the podium with Dylan Weaver taking 3rd at 174 pounds and George Vrachnos taking 5th at 197 pounds.
 
For Weaver, he got his day started with a major decision victory over Chris Cratsley of Messiah by a score of 15-6.  In the quarterfinals, Weaver fell to Mathew Wirth from Roanoke College by a 9-5 decision.  Weaver went on to win his final four matches of the invitational to secure a 3rd place finish.  In the consolation 4th match, Weaver picked up a tech fall victory over Nicholas Cook from Roanoke by a score of 20-4.  In the next bout, Weaver took care of Liam Bostrom, from division II Shippensburg, by major decision 11-3.  In the semifinals, Weaver advanced after Hunter Cleaver from Centenary (NJ) needed to withdraw due to injury.  In the third-place match, Weaver got his revenge on Wirth from Roanoke to secure a 14-2 major decision.
 
George Vrachnos secured a 5th-place finish after starting his tournament with a win via fall over Wyatt Sage from Roanoke at the 3:22 mark.  Diesel Koser from Shippensburg won the next match over Vrachnos by pinfall as the first period was ending.  Keevon Berry from Centenary (NJ) won by tech fall, 18-1 over Vrachnos in the consolation semifinals.  Vrachnos secured a 5th-place finish after Trey Shoemaker from Shippensburg needed to withdraw due to injury.
