Volleyball Blanked by Roanoke

SALEM, Va. - Over a week since its last match, the Shenandoah University volleyball team lost 3-0 on the road at Roanoke College on Friday night in ODAC action.

The Hornets (8-11, 1-6 ODAC) were up 21-13 in the middle set and had a chance to tie the match at one, but the Maroons (12-7, 3-4) overcame the eight-point deficit and eventually took a 2-0 lead in the match. RC closed the match with a 25-17 set three win.

Down 4-1 in the first, Regan Minney picked up a kill, which started a four-point run for SU, giving them a 5-4 advantage. Minney collected the final two points of the run on two service aces. Roanoke quickly regained its lead and won the opening set, 26-24. Cheyenne Price had three kills in the set's final moments, which helped SU tie the set at 24, before RC claimed the last two rallies.

The Hornets took advantage of 11 attack errors by the Maroons to take a 21-13 lead in the second. Ava Pannullo was on the other side of the net on four of those errors with two solo blocks and a pair of block assists with Brooke Gast. Despite the large lead, Roanoke stayed with it and rebounded with a 12-1 run, which ended the set.

Roanoke won the first point in set three. The Hornets tied the set twice in the early going but were unable to ever hold on to the lead as Roanoke completed its three-set sweep.

Gast led SU with 10 kills while Kylie Danella had a match-high 21 assists. Minney collected a team-high 13 digs and now is four away from 500 career.
