#12 Field Hockey Runs Past Royals

WINCHESTER, Va. – The #12 Shenandoah University field hockey team completely dominated the EMU Royals 10-0 for their 11th straight win to remain unbeaten in conference play.  The Hornets (13-2, 5-0) got goals from eight different players, with Elizabeth Ranberger and Mackenzie Watkins picking up multiple goals.  The offense was not the only players who shined, as the midfielders, defenders, and goalies did not allow a shot, a corner, or the ball in their defensive zone.  Taylor Swann started in the cage before giving way to Taylor Bullis in the second, Autumn Goldsberry in the third, and Jordan Ivey in the fourth.  As mentioned earlier, all four of the goalies did not face a shot or need to make a save.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hornets wasted little time as Shenandoah fired two shots fired two shots within the first two minutes of the game, earning their first corner.  Elizabeth Ranberger cashed in at the 2:01 mark and the Hornets never looked back.  Off the Hornets' second corner, the Hornets earned their first penalty shot, but the Royals' keeper made the stop on Camryn DeLeva keeping it a 1-0 game.  Claudia Lenahan then fired a shot, and as the initial shot was saved, Lenahan kept pressing for her third goal of the season.  30 seconds later, Cassidy Morrison picked up her conference-leading 18th goal of the season off a pass from Ranberger.  As the Hornets continued to pepper the keeper with shots, the Hornets earned another penalty shot.  This time, Madison Short rifled a shot past a diving keeper to make it 4-0.  30 seconds after that the Hornets continued to build their lead on Mackenzie Watkins's first goal of the season.  After another penalty corner, Farren Winter picked up her 11th goal.  Shenandoah got shots from Lily Kyvelos, Winter, and Watkins but did not score again and took a 6-0 lead into the second.

Shenandoah cashed in on their second penalty shot, and third of the game when Abbey Ritter found the back of the cage.  After shots from Elexis Stouffer, Kaitlyn Mogar, and Brinley Tozer, Shenandoah took an 8-0 lead into the break off the goal from Emily Swartzbough.

As the Hornets worked on passes and possession in the third, Ranberger netted her second of the game to make it 9-0.  Watkins added a goal late in the fourth off an assist from Brinley Tozer as the Hornets comfortably won 10-0.

This 11-game win streak is the most since the Hornets started 12-0 in the 2022 season. For the second time this season, the Hornets have shut out their opponents in three straight games.
