WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team hit double-digit wins for the first time in a season since 2018 with its 3-1 victory over Hollins on Wednesday evening in ODAC action at home.

The Hornets (10-11, 3-6 ODAC) won sets three and four in decisive fashion after Hollins (2-22, 0-11) tied the match with a tight win in set two.

RECAP

Hollins earned the first point of the evening but kills by Ava Pannullo and Brooke Gast quickly put SU up, 5-1. Autumn Stroop had two services aces, sandwiched between a pair of Regan Minney kills, to bring the Hornets' lead up to five after Hollins brought the set within one point.

Hollins once again came within one point of SU and kept the score there until SU used an 8-2 run to take the lead, 19-12. Minney won the set for SU, 25-16, with a service ace.

The second set saw Hollins overcome an early deficit before eventually holding a 24-19 lead. Shenandoah didn't go away quietly in the set as a Hollins error and kills from Ashlynn Spence and Kyiah Robinson made it 24-22. Kylie Danella picked up the assist on both kills and finished the night with 20. Hollins rebounded from the SU's run and finished the set, 25-22, with a kill of its own.

In the third, Minney tied the set at six after Hollins jumped out to an early lead. Directly after Minney's kill, Cheyenne Price and Danella helped SU regain the lead. Amber Shifflett, who started the set for Shenandoah, took an assist from Danella to put SU up by nine in the latter half of the set.

The Hornets continued to apply pressure to Hollins, as they jumped out to a double-digit lead in the third. Vanessa Rodriguez, who finished the night with a team-high 21 assists, assisted on the final two points of the set as SU won, 25-13.

The fourth set proved to be close early on with four ties and three lead changes. The final lead change of the night came as SU took the 6-5 advantage on a Shifflett kill. Danica Duncan had two kills during a 9-2 run for the Hornets which put them ahead 19-8.

Hollins cut the deficit down to single-digits but Shenandoah ended the frame on a 5-2 run to win by 10. The run included a kill from Ashlyn Wade.
