Volleyball Drops Three Set Match at RMC

ASHLAND, Va. - In a midweek ODAC match at Randolph-Macon College, the Shenandoah University volleyball team lost 3-0 on Wednesday night.

The Hornets (10-12, 3-7 ODAC) dropped the first team sets 19-25 each as the Yellow Jackets (11-12, 7-5) took the third 25-15. Cheyenne Price, Brooke Gast, and Hannah Hylton all tied for a team-high in kills.

RECAP

Vanessa Rodriguez set up Hannah Hylton for a kill and the first point of the night for SU, tying the first set at one. Two attack errors and an ace by Hylton pushed the Hornets out in front by three. RMC quickly tied the set once again but the Hornets went back up by three on a Kiyah Robinson ace.

The two quads went back-and-forth but a block by Ava Pannullo and Hylton helped SU regain the lead, 12-11. That'd be the last lead of the set for the Hornets as the Yellow Jackets used a 5-0 run to help them expand the lead before closing out the frame.

The second set was all Yellow Jackets with the host team jumping out to a 6-1 lead. Shenandoah was kept away from holding an advantage in the set in large part to an 8-0 run that put RMC up 20-11.

Cara Butler had a service ace that put Shenandoah up 2-1 early in the third as Hylton gained two kills that gave Shenandoah two separate two-point leads. Ashlynn Spence received a pass from Rodriguez for a kill that put SU up by three.

SU stayed in the lead until an 8-1 flipped the script and put RMC in front 19-13. The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead to double-digits on the night's final point on a Hornets attacking error.
