GREENSBORO, N.C. - The Shenandoah University volleyball team dropped a hard fought five set ODAC match at Guilford College on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets (7-10, 0-5 ODAC) trailed 2-0 before winning sets three and four, 25-23 and 25-20 respectively, before dropping the fifth set, 15-9, to the Quakers (7-9, 3-3).

RECAP
Guilford hopped out to a 12-2 lead in the first set before SU cut its deficit down to five on multiple errors by GC, a kill by Regan Minney, and an ace by Cara Butler. The home team extended its lead back up to seven before Cheyenne Price cut it back down to a five point game. Guilford rebounded from a service error to ultimately take the set, 25-18.

The second set had to go past the 25 point mark as the two teams battled back-and-forth for a 25-25 score. SU used a Hannah Hylton kill and with an assist from Kylie Danella to take a 1-0 lead. The Hornets held the lead until a 3-0 run put Guilford up, 14-12.

Later in the set SU trailed 23-22 but took the lead behind an Ashlynn Spence kill and a pair from Danella giving the Hornets a 25-24 lead. However, Guilford came right back with three straight points to win the second set, 27-25.

With the Hornets backs against the wall and facing a sweep, they used a 7-0 lead to overcome an early deficit in the third set and held a 9-5 lead. Guilford put the pressure back on SU but a block by Ava Panullo stopped the pressure, starting a run for the Hornets. The run was capped with a block by Brooke Gast and Pannullo as SU held a 19-18 lead.

The Quakers didn't go away in the third set as they took a 23-21 advantage. Down to their final two points, the Hornets strung together a four point run with three kills and an ace by Autumn Stroop to win the set, 25-23.
