HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team made an emphatic statement in their Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opener, cruising past Eastern Mennonite University with a decisive 75-53 win on the road. Hornets not only extended their winning streak but also demonstrated their capability to dominate in every aspect of the game. Terese Greene finished the night with a game-high 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting, accompanied by four rebounds, two blocks, and two steals. Her efficiency and poise under pressure set the benchmark for her teammates. Emily Williams complemented her efforts with 11 points, eight rebounds, and three assists, while Gabby Krystofiak and Addisyn Banks each added 10 points to round out a balanced scoring attack. Shawnise Campbell came close to a double-double with eight points and 12 rebounds, also chipping in three blocks and two steals in a stellar defensive display.
HOW IT HAPPENED
From the very first possession, Greene took charge, burying a three-pointer off a crisp assist from Gabby Krystofiak. It was a sign of things to come. EMU responded quickly, but Greene's fast break layup and another triple soon after set the tone for Shenandoah's evening. By the time the first quarter ended, the Hornets held an 18-10 lead, having dictated the pace of the game with sharp shooting and aggressive defense.
The second quarter saw the Royals attempting to claw their way back, starting with an early three-pointer. However, the Hornets' offensive rhythm was unrelenting. Addisyn Banks and Greene continued to deliver from all parts of the court, with Banks working efficiently in the paint and Greene mixing perimeter shooting with decisive drives. Shawnise Campbell added her first basket of the game midway through the quarter, showcasing the team's depth and versatility. Just before halftime, Emily Williams beat the buzzer with a well-timed jumper, sending Shenandoah into the break with a comfortable 41-29 advantage.
After the halftime adjustments, Shenandoah came out even more determined. Their defense tightened considerably, holding EMU scoreless for the first four minutes of the third quarter. Greene led the offensive charge during this stretch, supported by baskets from Williams, Maddie Kimble, and Krystofiak. With each possession, the Hornets' confidence grew, and their lead ballooned to 63-41 by the end of the third.
The final quarter was a formality as Shenandoah controlled the tempo and locked down EMU defensively. Williams, Campbell, and Greene added to their tallies, ensuring there would be no late-game heroics from the Royals. The Hornets' ability to manage the game and maintain focus, even with a sizable lead, was a testament to their maturity and cohesion as a team.
