Hornets Stay Perfect in Conference Play with Road Win Over Virginia Wesleyan

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's basketball team delivered a dominant performance Wednesday evening, securing a 66-53 victory over Virginia Wesleyan in a road conference matchup. This win keeps the Hornets undefeated in conference play and improves their overall record to 4-2.

Leading the charge was senior standout Terese Greene, who showcased her all-around brilliance with a game-high 22 points. Greene shot an efficient 10-of-19 from the floor, added six rebounds, dished out four assists, and grabbed an impressive six steals, further solidifying her reputation as one of the conference's top players.  Shawnise Campbell also made a significant impact, contributing 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting while adding three rebounds and two assists. Maddie Kimble chipped in with nine points, highlighted by a key three-pointer and a 4-of-6 performance from the free-throw line.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The opening quarter saw both teams battling to find their rhythm. The Marlins struck first with a free throw, but Greene quickly answered with a layup to put the Hornets on the board. Greene and Campbell combined for much of the Hornets' early offense, helping Shenandoah establish a 10-5 lead. However, Virginia Wesleyan closed the quarter on a 6-0 run, tying the game at 11.

The second quarter was a defensive battle, with neither team scoring for over four minutes. Greene continued to shoulder the offensive load for the Hornets, scoring nine consecutive points and helping Shenandoah edge out a 23-20 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Hornets began to pull away. Campbell and Kimble fueled the offense, with Kimble hitting key free throws and Campbell dominating inside. Gabby Krystofiak nailed a three-pointer to spark an 8-0 run, giving Shenandoah a seven-point advantage heading into the final frame.

The fourth quarter belonged entirely to the Hornets. Shenandoah poured in 24 points, with Greene, Kimble, and Campbell leading the way. Krystofiak's three-pointer and Campbell's offensive rebound and put back solidified the lead, while the Hornets' accuracy from the free-throw line sealed the deal.
