Hornets get in Holiday Spirit with Win at Elizabethtown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - On Friday afternoon, the Shenandoah University men's basketball team headed into its holiday break with a 78-57 non-conference win at Elizabethtown College.

Three different Hornets (5-6) scored double-digits as SU earned its third win of the season by at least 20 points with the victory over the Blue Jays (5-5).

RECAP

Each team missed their first two shots of the game but the Hornets found their stroke on the next two possessions as Dorian Davis and Joshua Stephen each drained a three. Stephen assisted and scored on the next two Shenandoah possessions putting Shenandoah up 10-4 early.

That SU lead extended to 15, with 11:58 remaining in the half, as Shamir Taylor dropped seven points over two and a half minute span for the visitors. Taylor finished the game with a career-high and game-high 18 points.

Coming off the bench, another first-year, Elia Morandotti scored six consecutive shots for the Hornets helping them take a 21-point advantage in the first. Shenandoah stayed out in front of Elizabethtown by a wide margin in the first half as Davis capped off the first 20 minutes of the game with a deep two at the buzzer.

Shenandoah went 18 for 29 (62.07%) from the field in the first half and made all but one of its six free throw attempts.

The strong shooting from the first half didn't carry over to the second initially for the Hornets, who didn't make a basket for nearly the first four minutes, allowing the home team to cut into their deficit.

Elizabethtown kept chipping away at the deficit and finally got it to single digits with a layup just over halfway through the second. The teams traded points, allowing the Blue Jays to stay within reach until a 12-2 run for Shenandoah took the breath out of the Blue Jays. Joseph Baldwin added an electrifying dunk during the run while Taylor added the final dagger with a three.

Chase Ambrosius and John Allen added late points for SU capping off the win.

Davion Roberts led the Hornets with four assists while Baldwin added a team-high nine rebounds. Roberts combined with Gavin Bizyak and Jordan Durham for the team's three steals.
