WINCHESTER, Va. – The number 3 ranked Shenandoah baseball team picked up a gritty, non conference win over Dickinson College Wednesday afternoon at

Kody Dobyns went .2 of an inning while striking out the final two batters in the eighth to keep the Red Devils behind.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Meyers got the first out of the game with a strikeout, before walking the next batter. He was then erased attempting to steal second base. Meyers then induced a ground ball to get the final out of the game.
- Frankie Ritter, who batted second today, hit a 1-out double to left field but was left stranded as the game remained scoreless.
- Meyers worked around a walk in the second but got a timely double play ball to get out of the inning.
- In the third, the Red Devils drew another lead off walk in the third, but again got a double play to get out of the inning.
- In the fourth, Meyers allowed a base runner, but again Meyers was able to leave everyone stranded.
- The Hornets went to work in the fourth, when Ritter led the inning off with a bunt. Chandler Ballenger singled through the right side and there were quickly two runners on with nobody out. Pearce Bucher singled to load the bases before Haden Madagan singled through the left side to plate two runs. Madagan and Bucher executed a double steal and the Hornets were able to take advantage of an error as Bucher crossed the plate. Brody Pickette reached first on an error to score the fourth run of the inning.
- Meyers got two quick outs in the fifth via strikeouts but then gave up a double and walk. A single down the right field line allowed the Red Devils to score their first run. Anthony Arrichiello came in to get the final out of the inning and limit any further damage.
- In the home half of the fifth, Ritter crushed a home run to left field to get that run back and pushed the lead back to 5-1.
- In the bottom of the sixth, Madagan led the inning off with a homer to left center, before Brody Pickette followed that up with a double to left center, but the Hornets could not push any more runs across.
- In the eighth, the Red Devils made the game interesting with a one-out double. Dickenson was able to get runners on the corners, taking advantage of a Hornet error. The last batter Arrichiello faced walked to load the bases. Brian Ferreira came in to get the final outs, but the Red Devils hit a grand slam to pull within one run at 6-5. Kody Dobyns was then called upon to get out of the inning. Dobyns got the first batter he saw to strikeout swinging, he then walked the next batter on four pitches, before getting the final out via strikeout.
- Scott Wilson singled to lead off the bottom of the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, but the Hornets left him stranded on second as we headed to the ninth.
- Joey Mitchell came in for the save and got one out on one pitch. The next batter singled to left field before Mitchell's 3-2 pitch just missed outside to put two on with only one out. Mitchell then jammed the batter and got a ground ball to short for a double play to end the game and secure the win.
UP NEXT:
It is a busy weekend for the Hornets as they will leave for the Eastern Shore for a non conference game with Salisbury on Friday before heading to Virginia Wesleyan for a conference doubleheader on Saturday.
