Men's Tennis Advances to ODAC Semifinals

WINCHESTER, Va. - The fourth-seeded Shenandoah University men's tennis team advanced to the ODAC semifinals for the first time with a 5-0 win at home against No. 5 Guildford College in the ODAC Quarterfinals.

The Hornets (14-6) took three tightly contested doubles matches to jump ahead 3-0 in the match against the Quakers (8-9) and then gained the two clinching wins in singles on courts three and four.

The first doubles match to conclude was doubles No. 1 with Dominick Suwak and Artem Babaiev winning a back-and-forth match 8-6. The middle court saw Keith Orr and Jovan Cirkovic battling back from a 6-3 deficit to win, 8-6.

The final doubles match had to go to a tiebreaker. Aryanth Chintharlappi and Anton McCloskey were up the entire set until Guilford tied it, 7-7. This forced a tiebreaker point, with SU's duo prevailing 7-4 to cap off the hour-plus match.

Orr gained the first point in singles for Shenandoah. The senior won the first set 6-1 before winning a perfect 6-0 second set.

The quarterfinal match win for SU was secured on court three as Cirkovic won the first set 6-0, went up early in the second set before giving up two points, but stayed ahead to win the final set 6-2.
