Volleyball Extends Win Streak to Five Games

FREDERICK, Md. - With the third set tied, 22-22, the Shenandoah University women's volleyball team went on a 3-0 run to close out the set and take the Wednesday night non-conference match at Hood College.

The Hornets (6-3) swept the Blazers (3-5) 25-22, 25-13, 25-22 to extend their winning streak to five games, the best win streak under head coach Kent Clayberg.

RECAP

The Blazers jumped ahead 6-0 in the first set but two aces from Hannah Hylton helped SU get on the board and start to cut down its early deficit. Hood stayed ahead until three costly attack errors put Shenandoah in front, 15-13.

The two teams stayed in a back-and-forth set until Kylie Danella and Hannah Hylton performed back-to-back kills, giving SU the 20-18 lead. Danella set Ava Pannullo up right in front of the net for the perfect kill to end the set and put SU up 1-0 in the match.

The middle set was much different from the first as the Hornets used a 9-2 run to jump out early. Three different Hornets had a kill during the run with Regan Minney having two. The run was capped off by a Hannah Hylton ace.

The Blazers put together several small runs but the Hornets' lead was too much to overcome. Kills from Brooke Gast and Regan Minney ended the set with Ashlyn Spence and Kylie Danella picking up the assists.

Hood rebounded in the third set and held a 6-2 lead but Claybeg's squad swung the momentum right back to their side of the net and capitalized with a 8-0 run, taking a 10-6 advantage. Shenandoah didn't let Hood hold the lead for the rest of the match.

The host team did end up tying the set at 15, 16, and 22. The final tie looked dangerous but the Hornets kept calm and were able to end the set and match on two kills and a Blazers error. Just as in the first set, it was Ava Pannullo picking up the final point for SU.

Regan Minney led all players with seven kills while Brooke Gast and Hannah Hylton were right behind her with six.

Seven Hornets had assists but Kylie Danella led the bunch with 18.
