Late Goal Pushes Stevenson Past Women's Soccer

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team fell 2-1 on the road against Stevenson University on Wednesday night.

An 84th-minute goal gave the Mustangs (2-3-1) the game-winner against the Hornets (3-3-1). Shenandoah's Mya Rolinson scored her first goal as a Hornet in the 22nd minute to tie the contest, 1-1.

RECAP

Just minutes into the game, Stevenson forced a turnover and quickly transitioned down the field on a long pass, which directly led to the game's opening goal in the 5th minute, putting the host team up 1-0.

Across the next 15 minutes of play, Shenandoah had five shots on goal which were all stopped by the Mustangs goalie to keep the home team in front. Still trailing, SU's Mya Rolinson gained control of the ball at the midfield line and dribbled around a defender. This led to a two-on-one attack, with Rolinson keeping the ball and flicking the ball into the upper half of the net, tying the game in the 22nd minute.

The two teams remained locked in a 1-1 tie for the remainder of the half, each getting off one more shot on goal.

The Hornets outshot the Mustangs 11-3 in the final 45 minutes, including 5-2 in the shots on goal department. McKenna Newcome and Kaitlyn Wahl fired shots in the 59th and 63rd minute, respectively, but both were saved in the center of the net.

In the final minutes of the game, a deflection off a SU defender led to an open shot for the Mustangs, which found the back of the net to put them in front, 2-1. Stevenson held off Shenandoah for the final six minutes of the game to secure the win.

Kaitlyn Wahl led the Hornets with nine shots as Kayla Jenkins, McKenna Newcome, and Mya Rolinson each had four.
