HOW IT HAPPENED:
Rowan jumped out early and started applying pressure and keeping the ball down in the Hornets' zone. Rowan got the first shot of the game, which was blocked, and led to the Profs first penalty corner. Shenandoah neutralized the threat and picked up their first corner of the game in the 6
th minute.
Madison Short played the ball to
Farren Winter who blasted a shot that was blocked, after the ball bounced around,
Cassidy Morrison fired a shot on goal that was saved.
Elizabeth Ranberger got a shot off that Prof keeper kicked away. Rowan took advantage of a corner in the 12
th minute when Allie Palumbo beat Swann off of the corner to take a 1-0 lead with 4 minutes left to play in the first. The Hornets managed one more corner and another shot from Morrison but went into the second down, 1-0.
In the second, the Hornets scored on their first offensive possession when
Mairead McKibbin cashed in for her second goal of the season. Shenandoah continued to dominate pressure in the second, as Rowan spent the first half of the period in their own zone.
Lily Kyvelos gave the Hornets the lead, making it 2-1 after three straight corners from the Hornets. Winter got one more shot off before the half, but that was saved and the Hornets led 2-1 going into the half.
Again, on their first offensive possession, the Hornets scored to increase their lead to 3-1. This time off of a corner, Short played the ball, and it eventually found the stick of
Cassidy Morrison, who buried her 11
th goal of the season. Rowan took advantage of their penalty corners, scoring in the 39
th minute off a corner to cut the lead back to one goal at 3-2. Morrison fired one more shot in the third, which was blocked, and the Hornets had another penalty corner opportunity and took a 3-2 lead into the fourth.
Rowan had the first shot in the fourth that sailed wide, but on the Hornets' first corner of the quarter, Short played the ball to Winter who blasted another shot that was turned away. McKibbin was there to pick up the rebound, find the back of the cage for her second of the game, and seal the 4-2 win. Swann made two of her five saves in the waning moments of the fourth but continued to turn the Profs away.
