Jenkins and Kilmer Lift Women's Soccer to Win Over Catholic

WASHINTON, D.C. - Thanks to an early goal from Kayla Jenkins and five saves by Kasie Kilmer, the Shenandoah University women's soccer team defeated Catholic University, 1-0, on the road on Wednesday night in non-conference play. This was the first meeting between the Hornets (2-1) and the Cardinals (1-1-1) since 2012.

IN BRIEF
It took one shot on goal for Shenandoah to get on the board as McKenna Newcome found Kayla Jenkins in the seventh minute for the lone goal of the game. The Hornets quickly followed with another shot on goal, this time from Chandler Gallant, which was saved towards the bottom of the net.

In the 21st minute, Catholic fired its first shot of the game which Kasie Kilmer saved to keep SU up. After one more shot by the home team, the Hornets kept the Cardinals without another scoring chance for the next 20 minutes. Minutes before halftime, Kilmer would make another first-half stop, keeping SU up at the break.

The Hornets' defense and Kilmer stayed strong in the second half as Catholic went on to have three more shots on goal, all denied by SU. The first two chances came in the first 15 minutes of the half while the third came in the the 85th minute.

A final push by the Cardinals was called offside by the officials, helping SU hang on for the 1-0 victory.

Newcome and Jenkins led the Hornets with two shots. Starters Emily Soos, Peyton Lubinsky, and Gallant also registered a shot. McKenzie Shea was the only Hornets' reserve to fire off a shot in the contest.

Shenandoah heads to Misericordia University for the Cougars Classic this weekend. The classic starts on Saturday with the Hornets playing the Cougars at 1 p.m.
