Hornets Fall to Red Devils in Midweek Tilt

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Shenandoah University men's soccer team saw their best start to a season since 2015 end with a 2-0 loss on the road to Dickinson.  The Hornets (2-1-0) could not find the back of the net and beat the Red Devils keeper, despite firing 19 shots with six of those shots being on target.  Nathan Lynch started in goal for the Hornets and made two saves, but gave up two second-half goals.  The Hornets out shot the Red Devils 19-13 and only managed one corner kick in the contest compared to Dickinson's three.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Dickinson got the pressure going early in the game as the Hornets attempted to figure out their offensive formation.  Nathan Lynch was immediately tested as the Red Devils fired two shots in the first four minutes of play, and Lynch was able to save both of them.  As the Dickinson pressure continued, the Red Devils fired four more shots off frame, and also earned a corner kick, before the Hornets got their first shot off in the 20th minute.  Tas Raji had a good look at the net but sent a shot over the top and out of play.  Each team traded shots as the first half clock ran out, and both teams went into the break in a nil-nil tie.

The pressure started quickly in the second half, as Dickinson earned a corner kick in the 47th minute.  The Red Devils did not score on the set piece, but the Hornets failed to clear the ball and Dickinson made them pay in the 48th minute putting the Red Devils up 1-0.  The Hornets found their offensive rhythm as the pressure and momentum started swinging in favor of the road team.  Shots from Jarbin Rodriguez, Carson Brooks, and Kyle Welch did not find the back of the net and in transition, Dickinson went down the field and scored their second goal of the game in the 57th minute.  The Hornets did not allow a shot for the rest of the game to Dickinson and Shenandoah continued to apply pressure on the defense.  The Hornets fired 10 shots over the final 33 minutes of play but came up empty as the Red Devils took the game 2-0.
