Volleyball Goes Undefeated at Home Invitational

WINCHESTER, Va. - Two wins on day two of the Shenandoah Invitational helped the Shenandoah University women's volleyball team earn its longest win streak in nine years. The Hornets (5-3) posted a 3-1 win over Penn State Altoona (2-5) and ended the day with a come from behind 3-2 win against Wilson College (0-6).

SU now has a four game winning streak and are off to its best start through eight games since the 2015 season.

PENN STATE ALTOONA RECAP
Shenandoah dominated the first set, winning 25-7 over the Lady Lions. Shenandoah earned 11 kills and committed just one error in the set. The Hornets started to pull ahead with a 8-0 run that made it 10-3 and later added 7-0 run to close out the frame.

Altoona took the second frame but Shenandoah rebounded quickly and gained control of the lead once again. The teams traded the lead multiple times to start the third set but Ava Pannullo's kill and a Kylie Danella ace put SU in front before taking the frame, 25-17.

The fourth set saw the Lady Lions pull out in front of the Hornets, 9-5. Shenandoah quickly made adjustments and responded 12-2 run with Hannah Hylton, Brooke Gast, Regan Minney, and Pannullo all racking up kills. Two straight Lady Lions attack errors ended the match.

Regan Minney and Hannah Hylton each racked up double-digit kills with Vanessa Rodriguez and Kylie Danella having 18 and 17 assists, respectively.

WILSON RECAP
Shenandoah looked to make it an undefeated home invitational for them with Wilson College the last team in their way. Shenandoah quickly handled Wilson in the first set, 25-10, but the Phoenix didn't go away quietly as they took the next two frames, 25-22, 25-17.

With their backs against the wall and needing to force a set five, Shenandoah went back to its normal rotation and Hannah Hylton and Kylie Danella started the frame off with a kill each. Danella then made it 3-0 with an ace before Wilson then committed and error, extending the SU lead.

Samantha Shy continued to apply the pressure as she added another ace to the SU resume, as SU jumped ahead 13-3 in the fourth. Kylie Danella set up for kills for the Hornets throughout the rest of the set, including the dagger from Regan Minney to force a fifth set.

Wilson earned the first serve in the fifth but Shenandoah didn't let that faze them as they picked up quick kills from Danella and Hylton put SU up 3-0.

The Phoenix made it 3-3 but couldn't get the lead as Ava Pannullo and Cheyenne Price each picked up a point for the 5-3 lead. Shenandoah ended up pulling ahead 11-5 forcing the visitors to call a timeout.

Wilson came out of the timeout and cut into its deficit but it wasn't enough as the Hornets ended the match on a Shy assist to Hylton.

Ava Pannullo and Cheyenne Price led the way up front with five and four kills, respectively. Regan Minney had a team-high 12 digs in the win.
