Munoz and Hugney Named Academic All-America

AUSTIN, Texas - Graduate student David Munoz and senior Steven Hugney have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Division III Football teams in selections released by the organization on Tuesday.

Munoz, an offensive tackle for the Hornets, earned first team honors with a 3.79 undergraduate GPA and a 3.67 GPA in his digital marketing graduate program. Hugney, a data science and computer science major, was voted to the second team with a 3.99 career GPA.

Munoz was recently named All-American by D3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) for his performance on the field. Hugney earned ODAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and J. Stokely Fulton Offensive Player of the Year back in November.

The Academic All-America accolade comes after Munoz and Hugney, along with six other Hornets were named Academic All-District earlier in the month. The duo becomes the first SU football players to earn the accolade since Jack Massie in 2021.
