Football Lands Eight on VaSID All-State; Hugney Named Offensive Player of the Year

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Virginia Sports Information Directors Association (VaSID) released its 2024 College Division All-State Football teams on Thursday morning, with Steven Hugney earning Offensive Player of the Year, along with seven other Hornets claiming a spot on one of the two teams.

Joining Hugney on the first team is offensive linemen David Munoz, linebacker Matt Conroy, and cornerback Sean Perry. Running back Jalen Redfearn, wide receiver Broden Domenico, and offensive linemen Dominic Gulli make an appearance on the second team with Ethan Brown rounding out the selections on defense.

Hugney, a senior quarterback for Shenandoah, earned ODAC J. Stokley Fulton Offensive Player of the Year and was named D3football.com All-Region Third Team after throwing for over 2,300 yards and adding 413 yards on the ground. The quarterback completes his career with 8,348 passing yards and 66 passing touchdowns, each ranking second in program history.

Munoz, a graduate student offensive tackle, was named a D3football.com and AFCA All-American, plus first team All-ODAC after leading the blocking efforts for SU's offense which ran for 2,152 yards in 11 games. Munoz and Hugney were each named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America teams earlier in the week.

Conroy, a junior linebacker for the Hornets, accumulated a team-high 107 tackles with one sack and three interceptions. The Bel Air, Maryland native intercepted two passes, including one pick six, against Guilford, which helped him earn ODAC Player of the Week. Conroy needs 58 tackles next season to become the all-time leader in tackles for SU.

Perry, a fifth-year player, was named All-ODAC and All-Region after having a team-high four interceptions and 61 tackles. Three of his interceptions came in conference play, with the fourth happening in the Cape Charles bowl game against Moravian.

Earning his way onto the second team, Redfearn had 146 rushing attempts for 862 yards and an ODAC leading 13 rushing touchdowns. The running back averaged just over 78 yards per game, with a season high 247 yards against Hampden-Sydney. Following the performance against the Tigers, Redferarn was named ODAC Offensive Player of the Week and DC Touchdown Club Player of the Week.

The Hornets top receiving target Domenico caught 65 passes for 864 yards. The fifth-year receiver had three games with over 100 receiving yards and caught a team-high seven touchdowns, in route to earning All-ODAC First Team.

Rounding out the offensive selections for the Hornets, Gulli was named All-State second team after helping the offense amass over 4,500 yards of offense and 52 total touhcdowns. Over Gulli's five year career, the Hornets have allowed an average of just one sack per game, with two years of allowing less than one sack per game on average.

Brown, a three time All-ODAC honoree, picked up 62 tackles and two sacks this season while playing on the defensive line for SU. In the game against Ferrum, Brown had a blocked kick, and the next week forced a fumble at Bridgewater.

Shenandoah finished the year with eight wins and made postseason play for the first time in 20 years.
