Field Hockey Dominates EMU, 8-0

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The No. 20 Shenandoah University field hockey team defeated Eastern Mennonite University 8-0 on Wednesday afternoon for the team's third straight ODAC win.

The Hornets (12-3, 5-1 ODAC) were led by Reagan Flory and Madison Short, who each scored two goals against the Royals (0-14, 0-5).

RECAP

The Hornets gained a shot on target by Camryn DeLeva 40 seconds into the game, which was saved, but were able to score two minutes later with Flory's first of the contest. Just past the five-minute mark, DeLeva assisted on a Claudia Lenahan goal, with the Hornets leading 2-0 at the end of one.

Early in the second quarter, DeLeva added to her night, scoring off a Hornets' penalty corner. The Hornets capitalized on another corner minutes later with Ava Fields scoring, putting SU up 4-0. With under six minutes left in the half, off another penalty corner, Mallory Holup hit the post, but Short cleaned up the rebound for the fifth goal of the game.

Shenandoah continued to execute on its penalty corner attempts, with Holup coming into the circle and assisting on Short's second goal of the game in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Flory assisted on a Kierney Weigle goal before adding her second goal of the game, putting SU up 8-0.

Cassidy Alexander, Jordan Ivey, Autumn Goldsberry, and Emma Meissner each played a quarter in goal for Shenandoah, with Alexander getting the start.

SU outshot EMU 40-1 in the game and had a 21-2 advantage in penalty corners.

With two regular-season games remaining, Flory now has 14 goals on the season, which is the most for a Hornet first-year since Mairead McKibbin (15) in 2021.
