Women's Soccer Powers Past EMU, 7-1

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team defeated Eastern Mennonite University 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon at home for its most ODAC wins in a season since 2019.

The Hornets (8-6-3, 6-2-0 ODAC) had six different goal scorers in the victory over the Royals (5-9-1, 3-5-0), with Alexandra Sarrach leading the way with two goals.

RECAP

In the first 15 minutes of the game, McKenna Newcome had two shots saved by the Royals and had an additional pair hit the posts, but finally broke through in the 16th minute with her seventh goal in five games, off an assist from Peyton Lubinsky. The duo quickly made it 2-0, with Newcome assisting on Lubinsky's goal.

In the 24th minute, Sarrach scored to make it 3-0 with Olivia Daniele providing the assist. Just over a minute later, EMU cut its deficit down to two with a shot from outside the box, which took a quick deflection off a Hornet. Shenandoah got the three-goal lead back as Lauren Duffy scored on an assist from Lucy Greenstein in the 39th minute.

Addison Campbell tallied on the Hornets' first shot of the second half for a 5-1 advantage. Less than ten minutes later, Sarrach scored for the second time, with Newcome earning her second assist of the afternoon.

First-year Devyn Pierce scored her first career goal in the 67th minute for the final goal of the game.

All 30 active Hornets saw playing time in the game with Morgan Musselman and Molly Donaldson spliting time in goal.

UP NEXT

Shenandoah hosts its final home contest of the regular season on Friday evening at 7 p.m. versus Guilford. Prior to kickoff, the Hornets are set to celebrate senior night.
