Women's Soccer Celebrates Senior Night with Sixth Straight Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team celebrated senior night with a 2-1 victory over Guilford College on Friday night at home.

The Hornets (9-6-3, 7-2-0 ODAC) scored two goals in the first 25 minutes of play to carry them to their sixth consecutive win, their longest streak since 2016. The Quakers (8-7-2, 2-7-0) scored their only goal of the game in the 88th minute.

RECAP
Prior to kickoff, the Hornets honored seniors Peyton Lubinsky, Alexis Andrews, and Cameron Shackford for senior night.

Shenandoah controlled possession early in the game, with two shots on target prior to McKenna Newcome scoring from the edge of the box off an assist from Kaitlyn Wahl. Newcome has scored in the last six games for Shenandoah and has 11 goals on the season, the most by an SU player since Elizabeth McGee in 2022.

In the 23rd minute, Kaitlyn Wahl put a shot past the Quakers for a 2-0 lead for SU. Guilford saved the final three shots on goal of the half for Shenandoah, keeping the Hornets up by two at halftime.

In the second half, Newcome had two more chances to add to her goal total but was met by the Quakers' goalie, with Lubinsky also having a chance to add to the lead.

In the 88th minute, following a shot saved by the Hornets, the Quakers were able to clean up the rebound and cut their deficit in half. However, the Hornets were able to run out the clock to hold on for the win.
