Women's Soccer Wins Regular Season Finale, 7-1

DANVILLE, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team ended its regular season with a 7-1 ODAC win at Averett University on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hornets (10-6-3, 8-2-0 ODAC) had seven different goal scorers in the win over the Cougars (3-12-1, 2-8-0). SU ends the regular season with at least eight conference wins since the 2015 team's nine wins.

RECAP

Shenandoah came out of the gates and got a shot on goal 30 seconds into the game, and scored the opening goal in the seventh minute with McKenna Newcome's 12th of the season, assisted by Lauren Duffy. Newcome has now scored in seven consecutive games and has the most goals in a season for the Hornets since Emily Yergin (13) in 2019.

In the 22nd minute, Kassidy Collins tallied her first goal of the season, with Olivia Daniele providing the assist. Roughly a minute later, Averett scored to cut its deficit in half. However, Alexandra Sarrach quickly put the Hornets up by two again, 3-1, off assists from Newcome and Daniele.

Shenandoah continued its offensive attack as Daniele added her third assist of the afternoon with a goal from Duffy in the 34th minute, giving Shenandoah a 4-1 lead heading into halftime.

The Hornets scored three more times in the second half with goals from Alexis Andrews, Peyton Lubinsky, and Ellie Ajello. Addison Campbell and Kamrynn Mays earned assists in the half, with Lubinsky's goal coming off a penalty kick.

Shenandoah outshot Averett 33-4 with an 18-3 advantage in shots on goal. Morgan Musselman and Molly Donaldson each played a half in net for SU, with Musselman getting the start and making two saves.

The Hornets are set for the ODAC Tournament, which begins on Saturday. An official release from the conference office regarding the bracket will be released following the conclusion of the regular season on Thursday.
