Women's Soccer Advances to ODAC Semifinals

WINCHESTER, Va. - The No. 3 Shenandoah University women's soccer team advanced to the ODAC Semifinals for the first time since 2022 with a 2-1 win at home on Saturday afternoon against No. 6 Roanoke College.

In their first home playoff game since 2016, the Hornets (11-6-3) scored two goals in the first 15 minutes of the game, propelling them to the win over the Maroons (9-9-1).

RECAP

An initial shot by McKenna Newcome was saved by the Maroons in the sixth minute. However, the Hornets maintained possession, and Kaitlyn Wahl gave the ball right back to Newcome, who got the ball past Roanoke for an early 1-0 lead.

In the 14th minute, Wahl found herself with a one-on-one opportunity with the goalkeeper and won the battle, squeezing a shot through the legs of the goalie to put the Hornets up by two.

At the other end of the field, Morgan Musselman made two saves for SU to keep them up by two at halftime.

Roanoke controlled possession in the second half, striking for a goal with 25 minutes left, with a shot from outside the box that found the top corner of the net.

Defense prevailed in the final 25 minutes, with the goalies combining for four saves at either end of the pitch.

Shenandoah heads to No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan University on Wednesday for the semifinals of the tournament. This is the third consecutive season that the Hornets and Marlins meet in the conference tournament, as the Marlins have won the last two occasions.
