Women's Volleyball's Five Game Winning Streak Snapped by Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's volleyball team's five-game win streak was snapped on Saturday morning at the University of Lynchburg, in a 3-1 ODAC loss.

LYN (16-2, 4-1 ODAC) won the first two sets, 25-19, 25-24, and locked up the win with a 25-16 victory in the fourth. SU (8-6, 4-2) avoided the sweep with a 25-21 third-set win.

IN BRIEF

Three blocks by the Shenandoah defense and a service ace from Autumn Stroop put SU up 7-4 in the first set. Lynchburg quickly flipped the lead and took an 8-7 lead, which they wouldn't relinquish for the entire set.

In the second set, back-to-back kills by Ava Pannullo tied the set at nine for Shenandoah. However, LYN went on an 11-1 run, which put them up 20-10 late. The deficit was too much for SU to overcome, with LYN taking a 2-0 match lead.

In the third set, after a back-and-forth beginning, Shenandoah held an 11-8 lead thanks to three attack errors from Lynchburg and block assists from Ashlyn Spence and Alana Washington. Shenandoah put the set away with blocks from Spence, Amber Shifflett, and Chillis Oke.

However, Lynchburg won the fourth set and the match thanks to a large 22-8 lead.

Hannah Hylton (11), Spence (7), and Pannullo (6) led SU in kills. Amanda Ingrassia and Susan Smith each had double-digit assists.
