Newcome Strikes Twice as Hornets Blank Bridgewater

WINCHESTER, Va.- The Shenandoah University women's soccer team defeated Bridgewater College for the first time at home since 2006 on Wednesday night with a 2-0 ODAC victory.

McKenna Newcome netted both goals for the Hornets (4-6-3, 2-2-0 ODAC), as Morgan Musselman made six saves for the shutout over the Eagles (8-4-0, 2-3-0).

RECAP

Newcome made a quick move around an Eagles' defender to rip a shot from just outside the box for her first goal of the evening in the ninth minute, putting SU up, 1-0.

Musselman made saves in the 15th, 20th, and 24th minutes to keep the lead in the hands of the Hornets. Newcome nearly added to the lead late in the first half, but the Eagles made a stop to keep their deficit at one.

Shenandoah's offense went to work in the early portion of the second half, with Newcome and Kaitlyn Wahl each getting a shot on the target, but the Eagles once again made the stop to keep the lead at one for SU. However, in the 49th minute, Newcome scored again, doubling the lead for the Hornets.

Bridgewater kept possession of the ball for the majority of the remainder of the game but was held to just two shots on goal, with Musselman making the saves to preserve the shutout.
