Football Defeated by No. 21 Randolph-Macon

ASHLAND, Va. - The Shenandoah University football team's four-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday afternoon at No. 21 Randolph-Macon College, 31-14, in an ODAC game.

The Yellow Jackets (8-1, 7-0 ODAC) had nearly 400 yards of offense, while holding the Hornets (6-2, 4-2) to 166 yards, including just 34 yards on the ground.

RECAP

An interception thrown by the Hornets, followed by a three-and-out on the next drive, allowed the Yellow Jackets to take a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.

At the start of the second quarter, the Hornets were stopped on their third consecutive drive, giving the ball back to the home team. Five plays later, the Hornets' defense got to RMC's quarterback, forcing a throw which landed in the hands of Jaren Mitchell for an interception. Mitchell returned the pick for a 65-yard pick-six.

Shenandoah had a chance to tie the game after recovering an onside kick by Carson Gallant, but the Yellow Jackets forced another three-and-out. Randolph-Macon completed a seven-minute drive, ending with a touchdown to lead 21-7 at the half.

The Yellow Jackets ran for a 66-yard touchdown on the first play from scrimmage in the second half, going up by 21. After neither offense was able to gain any traction for the rest of the quarter, RMC hit a 23-yard field goal for a 31-7 lead at the start of the fourth.

Later in the fourth quarter, SU blocked a punt, which was recovered by Lucas Black. SU took advantage of the short field and scored a touchdown off a Jalen Redfearn one-yard rush. However, RMC chewed the clock for the final five minutes to complete the win.

Makhi Brown completed 22 passes to 10 different receivers for 132 yards. Guy Hayes led the receivers with four catches for 28 yards.

Matt Conroy led the defense with 17 total tackles, with Ace Heinrichs collecting 11 tackles as well.
