Men's Basketball Surges in Second Half for Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team defeated Wilson College 70-61 at home on Saturday night in a non-conference game.

The Hornets (2-0) only led by two at halftime, but grew their lead all the way to 14 points against the Phoenix (0-3), helping them claim the win. Joseph Baldwin scored a game-high 22 points, which is the second most in his career, following a 23-point performance last season.

RECAP

Defense stood tall by both teams, as the visitors led 5-2 at the first media timeout, with Baldwin scoring the first basket for SU. A layup by Baldwin gave Shenandoah its first lead of the evening, 8-7, just over six minutes into the game.

Following the exchange of leads several times throughout the half, Shenandoah gained a five-point advantage, 22-17, thanks to an and-one by Ellis Wright with 7:54 left in the first. Dorian Davis knocked a three to extend the lead even more for SU. However, by the end of the half, Wilson had cut its deficit back to two.

Wilson opened the second half with a three to regain the lead, but Baldwin answered back with a three-pointer from the top of the key to get the lead back in the hands of the Hornets. In the middle of the half, Shenandoah held Wilson scoreless for nearly five minutes, helping the home team take an 11-point lead, which eventually led to a 14-point lead, helping the home team hang on for the win.

Wright and Davis helped the Hornets with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Baldwin and Davis tied for a team-high eight rebounds, with Landon Russ adding five assists.
