Women’s Volleyball Closes ODAC Regular Season with 5-Set Win at EMU

Hornets Clinch #5 Seed in ODAC Tournament

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Shenandoah Women's Volleyball battled through a sive set thriller to take their final ODAC regular season win this season at EMU. The Hornets (12-10, 7-4 ODAC) clinched the #5 seed in the ODAC Tournament, a feat they haven't reached since 2021. The Royals (6-19, 2-9 ODAC) finish three spots out of the 8-team field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Shenandoah came out firing on all cylinders in set 1, using 5 massive runs to claim the 25-12 set 1 victory. To close out the set, the Hornets went on a 10-3 run, using 5 kills from Hannah Hylton (12 kills overall) to dominate the match's opening set.

EMU stayed together and capitalized on a flurry of Hornet errors to take a pair of cose sets in sets 2 and 3. The Royals outscored the Hornets in both sets to take the 2-1 set lead.

With the Hornets on their heels, the team rallied in the 4th set early on, taking six of the first seven points using a combination of kills from Hannah Hylton and Ashlynn Spence, as well as blocks from Kamryn Keasey. SU used 3 more 3-4 point swings to take another commanding set, 25-15.

The final set saw EMU use an early run to go up 9-6, claiming the lead at the swap, but the Hornets didn't waver. SU would force a timeout after cutting the deficit to 8-10, then would close the game out on a 7-2 run capped off by an Alana Washington kill.

Despite the 5 set match, the Hornets led the Royals in almost every team category. SU tallied 110 points compared to EMU's 89. The Hornets out-killed the Royals 57 to 39, had 55 assists to EMU's 32, and 11 aces to EMU's 8.

The Hornets were led by Hannah Hylton in the stat sheet, where she had 25.5 total points including 21 kills, both placing her top 3 in single game school history. Ashlynn Spence came in behind Hylton with 19.5 points on 17 kills.

Amanda Ingrassia tallied 27 assists, one shy of her career high, with only 2 set errors on the day. Kylie Danella added 16 assists with only 1 error.

Autumn Stroop led the back line with 27 digs.
