Men's Basketball Defeated by Division-I Radford in an Exhibition

RADFORD, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's basketball team returned to action on Sunday afternoon with an exhibition at NCAA Division I Radford University, with Radford winning 87-44.

This was the first game against a Division I opponent for the Hornets since a 2021 meeting with High Point University. The Highlanders (7-8) trailed with 15 minutes remaining in the first half and then held the Hornets scoreless for a nine-minute span to take a 35-point lead at halftime.

RECAP

Dorian Davis put Shenandoah up early with a shot from downtown on the team's first possession. Radford responded right away with a three of its own, but Joseph Baldwin converted a layup on the next trip down the court, giving SU a 5-4 advantage.

John Allen and Baldwin scored the next handful of points for the Hornets, keeping the lead in their favor just five minutes into the game. However, an 8-0 run by the hosts over the next four minutes gave them a 16-9 lead.

The Highlanders held the Hornets scoreless for over nine minutes until Baldwin ended the half with a three-pointer. Radford led 42-17 at halftime.

After the Highlanders opened the second half with two quick baskets, Shenandoah went on a 14-1 run behind seven points from Ellis Wright and four by Samuel Dailey, making it a 53-33 contest.

Despite the run to start the half for SU, Radford went on an eight-minute 30-9 run that extended its lead to 41 to close out the game.

Wright led the Hornets with 10 points off the bench, while Davis had the team-high in assists and rebounds with two and six, respectively. Matthew Simmons and Landon Russ also had two assists in the game.
