Smeltzer-Kraft Becomes Winningest Coach in Program History with 155th Career Win

WINCHESTER, Va. - Shenandoah University women's basketball head coach Melissa Smeltzer-Kraft became the winningest coach in program history with her 155th career win on Saturday afternoon at home against Roanoke College in ODAC play.

Smeltzer-Kraft and the Hornets (7-1, 2-0 ODAC) defeated the Maroons (3-3, 0-2) 79-61, with Addisyn Banks dropping 21 points and Emily Williams having a 17-point, 10-rebound day for her fourth double-double of the year.

RECAP

A three by Brynna Nesselrodt, along with baskets by Williams and Banks, put the Hornets up 7-2 early. The Maroons then cut into the Hornets' lead, but first-year Taylor Moran scored the final eight points of the first for SU to keep them up by seven.

The lead hit 12 for Shenandoah off a three from Williams, with Jessica Littlejohn connecting with Banks just before a media timeout to help maintain a double-digit lead for SU. Coming off the bench, Mya Martin scored back-to-back layups to add to SU's afternoon.

Roanoke, looking to grow some momentum, went on a 5-0 run towards the end of the half, but Williams scored a buzzer-beater to keep the momentum on SU's side of the court to end the half.

In the third, the Maroons made it a three-point game, forcing Smeltzer-Kraft to call an early timeout. The Hornets recovered after the timeout and held Roanoke scoreless for the next three minutes, with Littlejohn hitting a three to get the lead back to 10.

The Hornets continued to lead by at least 10 for the rest of the game, shooting over 50 percent in the fourth quarter and scoring 21 points in the frame. Skai Bayless assisted on the final two baskets of the game for SU to end the day with seven helpers.
