WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five games with a dominant 68-50 victory over Salisbury University on Monday night. The game, originally scheduled for last week, was rescheduled due to illness on the Salisbury side.
The Hornets (15-6, 10-3) were led by Terese Greene, who delivered a game-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting while also converting 4-of-5 free throws. Greene filled the stat sheet with six rebounds, three steals, two blocks, and two assists.
Shawnise Campbell also contributed double-digit scoring, finishing with 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Campbell also grabbed five rebounds, blocked three shots, and added an assist.
Additional contributions came from Gabby Krystofiak (eight points, two rebounds), Maddie Kimble (seven points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals), and Addisyn Banks (seven points, six rebounds).
Shenandoah shot 27-of-61 from the field, struggled from beyond the arc at 2-of-16, but found success at the free-throw line, making 12-of-17 attempts. Defensively, the Hornets held the Seagulls to 17-of-50 shooting from the floor, 4-of-17 from three-point range, and 12-of-13 from the free-throw line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Shenandoah opened the game with a quick 4-0 lead behind baskets from Greene and Campbell. Salisbury responded with a 4-0 run to tie the game before briefly pulling ahead. Greene halted the Seagulls' momentum with back-to-back baskets, including a converted and-one play to bring the Hornets within one at 10-9. Emily Williams then found Sydney Shepos for an easy layup, regaining the lead for Shenandoah. Williams capped off the first quarter with a jumper, giving the Hornets a 13-10 advantage.
The second quarter saw offensive struggles for Shenandoah, as the team was held scoreless for the first seven minutes, missing six consecutive shots and committing multiple turnovers. Salisbury capitalized on the drought to take a 17-13 lead before Greene ended the Hornets' scoring slump. Additional contributions from Shepos and Banks kept Shenandoah within striking distance, trailing just 22-21 at halftime.
The second half belonged to the Hornets, as they erupted for 23 third-quarter points. Greene and Campbell set the tone with a 6-0 run to start the period. The teams exchanged baskets before Krystofiak scored off an assist from Williams. A Salisbury three-pointer momentarily tied the game at 31-31, but Williams responded with an and-one conversion. Greene added a free throw, and Kimble knocked down her lone three-pointer of the night. Shenandoah continued its offensive surge, with Jessica Littlejohn hitting a mid-range jumper and Kimble adding two free throws and a final jumper to secure a 44-35 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Banks opened the final period with a basket before both teams exchanged free throws. Campbell continued to dominate in the post, helping maintain Shenandoah's advantage. Salisbury trimmed the lead to 10 with under six minutes remaining, but Krystofiak responded with a clutch three-pointer off an assist from Banks. The Seagulls attempted a late push, but the Hornets remained in control, sealing the game at the free-throw line for a decisive 68-50 victory.
