Shenandoah Falls to Washington and Lee in Hard-Fought Battle

WINCHESTER, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team fell to Washington and Lee University on Saturday, dropping the season series after a late fourth-quarter surge by the Generals secured a 67-61 victory.

The Hornets (15-8, 10-4) were led by Terese Greene, who recorded a team-high 18 points on 6-of-24 shooting from the floor and 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. The senior also contributed seven rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block. Maddie Kimble and Emily Williams each added 13 points. Kimble went 3-of-16 from the field—all from behind the arc (3-of-11)—and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line while also securing eight rebounds and an assist. Williams was efficient, shooting 5-of-7 from the floor, 1-of-1 from three-point range, and 2-of-3 from the line while tallying a double-double with 13 rebounds and an assist.

Gabby Krystofiak (7 points, 3 rebounds), Shawnise Campbell (6 points, 9 rebounds), and Addisyn Banks (4 points, 5 rebounds) also contributed offensively for the Hornets. As a team, Shenandoah shot 28% from the floor (21-of-74), 22% from three-point range (5-of-23), and 78% from the free-throw line (14-of-18). The Generals shot 24-of-69 from the floor, made only one three-pointer on 17 attempts, and went 18-of-30 from the free-throw line.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Washington and Lee opened the game with an early 2-0 lead, but Emily Williams responded with a three-pointer off an assist from Greene to give the Hornets their first lead at 3-2 just over a minute into play. Greene followed with a basket of her own before the Generals tied the game at 5-5. Shenandoah then went on a scoring run with a layup from Williams, a three-pointer from Kimble, and free throws from Greene, building a 12-6 advantage with under five minutes remaining in the first quarter. Additional points from Greene, Kimble, and Banks helped the Hornets end the first quarter with a commanding 20-9 lead.

Shenandoah struggled offensively in the second quarter, managing only two field goals—both layups by Greene. However, the team capitalized on its free-throw opportunities, converting 5-of-7 attempts. Despite this, the Generals chipped away at the deficit, scoring 13 points in the quarter, and the Hornets took a 29-22 lead into halftime.

Early in the third quarter, the Generals scored first, but the Hornets responded with a dominant 13-0 run, holding W&L scoreless for nearly four minutes. Greene, Campbell, and Williams fueled the run, which was capped off by an and-one from Williams. A three-pointer from Krystofiak extended the Hornets' lead to 47-30 with under three minutes left in the period. However, Washington and Lee answered with a 7-0 run to close the quarter, cutting Shenandoah's lead to 47-37 heading into the final 10 minutes.

The fourth quarter saw W&L's Mary Schleusner take over, scoring a game-high 42 points and pulling down 27 rebounds. The Generals tied the game at 49-49 with under six minutes remaining and took their first lead since the opening quarter shortly after. Campbell quickly answered with a layup, but an 8-0 run by the Generals gave them a 59-51 advantage. Shenandoah fought back, with Greene converting an and-one and Kimble drilling another three-pointer, but W&L secured the victory at the free-throw line, preventing the Hornets from closing the gap any further.
