Weaver Advances to Day Two of Regionals

DANVILLE, Va. – The Shenandoah University wrestling team competed in the first day of the NCAA South Regionals, hosted by Averett University in Danville, Virginia.

After day one, Dylan Weaver (174 lbs) remains in contention and will compete on day two for a chance to qualify for the NCAA Nationals. If Weaver wins out, he will secure a third-place finish in the region.

Weaver started his day strong with a victory by fall over Tristan Craddock (Heidelberg). However, he fell in the quarterfinals to Cale Callahan (Otterbein) by an 8-0 major decision. Weaver rebounded with a dominant tech fall win over Michael Gabbard (Averett), securing an 18-3 victory to advance to day two.

Day One Results

125 pounds – Anakin Burks

  • Preliminary Round: Anakin Burks (Shenandoah) won by tech fall over Ryland Parker (Waynesburg), 15-0 (TF-1.5, 2:10).
  • Championship Round 1: Mason Barrett (Averett) won by fall over Burks, 0:50.
  • Consolation Round 1: Aidan Carone (Mount Union) won by major decision over Burks, 15-4.

133 pounds – Heath Burks

  • Preliminary Round: Heath Burks (Shenandoah) won by tech fall over Joshua Smith (Washington & Jefferson), 15-0 (TF-1.5, 1:05).
  • Championship Round 1: Vincent Ziccardi (Washington & Lee) won by fall over Burks, 4:00.
  • Consolation Round 1: David Gelman (Heidelberg) won by tech fall over Burks, 23-3 (TF-1.5, 5:30).

149 pounds – Noah Diamond

  • Championship Round 1: Cael Vanderhorst (Ohio Northern) won by fall over Diamond, 4:34.
  • Consolation Round 1: James Rankin (Wilmington) won by medical forfeit over Diamond.

157 pounds – Cannon Long

  • Preliminary Round: Cannon Long (Shenandoah) won by fall over Corbin Mecham (Southern Virginia), 2:26.
  • Championship Round 1: Thane McCoy (Wilmington) won by major decision over Long, 17-4.
  • Consolation Round 1: Long won by major decision over Jayden Jones (Ohio Northern), 11-3.
  • Consolation Round 2: Casey Smith (Washington & Jefferson) won by tech fall over Long, 22-7 (TF-1.5, 6:23).

165 pounds – Jalen Cornelius

  • Championship Round 1: Cornelius won by major decision over Theodore Piluso (Randolph), 11-3.
  • Quarterfinals: Andrew Supers (Baldwin Wallace) won by tech fall over Cornelius, 19-0 (TF-1.5, 5:14).
  • Consolation Round 2: Ethan Kring (Greensboro) won by decision over Cornelius, 5-4.

174 pounds – Dylan Weaver

  • Championship Round 1: Weaver won by fall over Tristan Craddock (Heidelberg), 4:12.
  • Quarterfinals: Cale Callahan (Otterbein) won by major decision over Weaver, 8-0.
  • Consolation Round 2: Weaver won by tech fall over Michael Gabbard (Averett), 18-3 (TF-1.5, 3:16).

197 pounds – Robert Keener

  • Preliminary Round: Britton Sorenson (Southern Virginia) won by fall over Keener, 1:21.
  • Championship Round 1: Isaiah Manning (Greensboro) won by tech fall over Keener, 19-4 (TF-1.5, 2:55).

285 pounds – Bryan Guzman

  • Preliminary Round: Guzman won by fall over Thomas Head (Randolph), 2:53.
  • Championship Round 1: Seth Phillips (Thiel) won by fall over Guzman, 3:38.
  • Consolation Round 1: Demitrius Hernandez (Heidelberg) won by decision over Guzman, 4-0.
