SALEM, Va. – The Shenandoah University women's basketball team concluded its season Friday evening with a loss to top-seeded Randolph-Macon in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) semifinals at the Salem Civic Center. The Hornets (17-10, 11-5) were led by Terese Greene, who recorded a game-high 23 points on 5-of-14 shooting from the field, 4-of-7 from three-point range, and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. She also contributed three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
Maddie Kimble added 10 points on 3-of-11 shooting, including 2-of-7 from beyond the arc and a perfect 2-of-2 from the free-throw line. Kimble also secured three rebounds and two assists. Gabby Krystofiak chipped in with eight points, shooting 2-of-6 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 from the line. Shawnise Campbell (four points, eight rebounds), Addisyn Banks (two points), and Skai Bayless (two points) rounded out the scoring for the Hornets.
As a team, Shenandoah shot 26% from the floor (12-of-47), 40% from three-point range (8-of-20), and an impressive 94% (17-of-18) from the free-throw line. Randolph-Macon shot 42% from the field (25-of-60), 25% from three-point range (4-of-16), and 80% (8-of-10) from the line.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Shenandoah opened the game with a strong start as Shawnise Campbell scored on the team's first possession off an assist from Greene. Kimble followed with a three-pointer, giving the Hornets an early 5-0 lead. Randolph-Macon responded with back-to-back jumpers before Greene extended the lead to 7-4. After converting an and-one opportunity, Greene made it 8-4. Macon answered with a three-pointer, cutting the deficit to one. Both teams exchanged free throws before Macon took its first lead of the game on an offensive rebound and putback. The Yellow Jackets added another layup before Kimble connected on another three-pointer. The teams continued trading baskets, and Greene hit a three-pointer to help Shenandoah take a 17-14 lead into the second quarter.
Randolph-Macon opened the second quarter with a 4-0 run, but Campbell halted the momentum with an offensive put back. Bayless converted both of her free-throw attempts, pushing the Hornets' lead back to three. Macon reclaimed the lead with a three-pointer before Krystofiak tied the game with two free throws. She then hit a three-pointer to make it 26-23. Greene closed the half with two additional free throws, sending the Hornets into the break with a 28-25 advantage.
After halftime, Krystofiak knocked down a three-pointer to extend Shenandoah's lead, but Randolph-Macon responded with a dominant 12-0 run, holding the Hornets scoreless for nearly six minutes. Banks ended the drought with two made free throws, followed by a Greene three-pointer and two free throws from Kimble. However, Macon carried a 47-38 lead into the final quarter.
Greene attempted to rally the Hornets in the fourth quarter, scoring all of the team's points in the frame. She managed to cut the deficit to four points at one stage, but Randolph-Macon responded with timely baskets and converted late free throws to maintain control. Greene finished with 11 points in the final quarter, including two three-pointers and five free throws, but the Yellow Jackets sealed the victory with a final score of 62-49.
