Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Matt McIntosh '23

Men's Tennis Downs Rams and Quakers on Friday

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's tennis team defeated Division II Shepherd University on Friday morning at home before winning an ODAC match versus Guilford in the afternoon.

The Hornets (5-3, 3-0 ODAC) shutout the Rams (1-6), 7-0, in the morning match and blanked the Quakers (3-6, 2-3), 4-0, to round out the day.

SHEPHERD RECAP

Shenandoah swept the doubles action, winning 6-0 on two courts and 6-1 at court number one with Keith Orr and Dominick Suwak.

Neal Love and Shine Tokas each defeated their opponents in singles with a 6-0, 6-0 decision. Marvin Kuehnelt and Max Arkans matched each other on court four and six with 6-0, 6-1 wins.

Jovan Cirkovic handled the opposition with a 6-2, 6-1 win on court three while Artem Babaiev closed out the shutout win with a 6-4, 7-6 win at court one. 

GUILFORD RECAP

Cirkovic and Babaiev team up in doubles action versus Guilford and gave SU an advantage with a 6-0 win. Aryanth Chintharlapalli and Tokas gave SU the team point for doubles with a 6-3 victory.

Following the conclusion of doubles action the match was paused due to rain. The Hornets and Quakers resumed the match roughly two hours later, indoors at the Winchester Country Club.

Following the resumption of play, Babaiev and Suwak were victorious in singles by opponent retirement, putting SU ahead, 3-0. The win was clinched with Tokas' 6-0, 6-0 victory on court two.

Shenandoah plays tomorrow at Hampden-Sydney at 1 p.m. in an ODAC match.
