Three Hornets Named IWLCA All-Region

NORTHBOROUGH, MASS. - Three Shenandoah University women's lacrosse athletes earned second-team All-Region honors by the Intercolligiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Friday afternoon.

Attacker Ainsley Buckner and defenders Julianna Fohner and Talia Maria represent the Hornets on the all-region team for the Chesapeake Region.

Buckner, a graduate student, started in all 20 games for Shenandoah and tallied 66 points. Of the 66 points, 42 were goals, which was a team high. Buckner, with 138 draw controls this season, set the program record for career draw controls. The attacker had 13 multi-goal games and seven games with multiple assists.

Defensively, Fohner led the team with 41 caused turnovers and 53 ground balls. The senior started in all 20 games and had 12 games with multiple caused turnovers. The defender had a season-high six caused turnovers in a non-conference game versus Dickinson in March.

Sophomore Maria ranked second on the team with 52 draw controls, which is a new career-high. Maria also hit a career high for caused turnovers and ground balls with 20 and 33, respectively.

All three Hornets were named earned first team All-ODAC honors earlier this month after helping SU reach the ODAC Championship for the first time since 2013.
