Field Hockey Starts 2025 Season with Shutout Victory

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Shenandoah University field hockey team, the reigning ODAC champions, opened the 2025 season with a 4–0 victory over DePauw University on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game hosted by Denison University.

The Hornets (1–0) scored three times in the first half and had four different goal scorers in their shutout win over the Tigers (0–1).

RECAP

After the Hornets' opening shot was saved, they earned an early penalty corner. SU capitalized on the opportunity, scoring its first goal of the season when Claudia Lenahan found the back of the net off assists from Camryn DeLeva and Catherine Groszkowski.

Nearly five minutes later, first-year Keirney Weigle recorded her first career goal off an assist from Ellie Quinn to put Shenandoah up 2–0. The Hornets extended their lead to 3–0 at halftime thanks to Mallory Holup's first goal of the season, which came late in the second quarter.

Shenandoah earned four penalty corners in the first half and added eight more in the third quarter. Despite the opportunities, the Tigers held the Hornets scoreless in the third and allowed just one shot on goal.

DePauw continued to limit Shenandoah's chances in the second half until Mackenzie Watkins connected with Reagan Flory for the final goal late in the fourth quarter. Flory recorded a team-high two shots on goal.

Defensively, Shenandoah locked down the Tigers, holding them without a shot for the entire game. First-year goalkeeper Cassidy Alexander earned her first career win in net.
