Flory Gives Field Hockey Overtime Win

GRANVILLE, Ohio - The No. 11 Shenandoah University field hockey team earned its second win of the weekend with a 2-1 overtime victory on the road against Denison University on Sunday.

First-year Reagan Flory scored the game-winning goal less than two minutes into the overtime period to lift the Hornets (2-0) past the Big Red (0-2).

RECAP

Shenandoah's offense gained just two shots in the first half, which allowed Denison to score first nearly halfway through the first. The Hornets earned two corners in the second quarter, with the second corner leading to a late shot on goal that was saved, keeping the Big Red up 1-0 at the half.

Another corner in the third quarter, taken by Madison Short, led to Shenandoah tying up the contest at one. Kayleigh Vodvarka scored for the Hornets, with Claudia Lenahan picking up the assist.

The Hornets were given four more corners in the fourth quarter, but the Big Red defense remained strong, sending the game to overtime without the Hornets gaining a shot on goal in the final quarter of regulation.

In the overtime period, Lenahan worked the ball down the field before pushing the ball over to Flory in the corner of the cage, allowing Flory to poke the ball past the Big Red's goalie for the sudden-death goal.

Lenahan and Flory now have the team-high in points with four following the first weekend of play.
