Wahl Helps Hornets Tie No. 18 Tartans

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University women's soccer team battled No. 18 Carnegie Mellon University to a 1-1 tie on Friday afternoon at home in a non-conference game.

The Hornets (1-2-2) took the lead early thanks to Kaitlyn Wahl's first goal of the season, with the Tartans tying the game in the second half, forcing the tie.

RECAP

It took one shot for the Hornets to get on the board as Wahl put the ball past the Tartans with McKenna Newcome providing the helper. The goal marked the first time the Hornets have held the lead over Carnegie Mellon.

Wahl and Newcome each had a chance to add to the lead later in the half but were denied by the Tartans' goalie. At the other end of the field, Molly Donaldson made two stops to keep the lead in the hands of the home team at the half.

In the second half, an early offside against the Hornets led to Carnegie Mellon tying the game up in the 49th minute. Shenandoah looked to regain the lead with Newcome having two shots on goal and one that just missed the net, hitting the crossbar.

Morgan Musselman, who entered the net for the Hornets at the start of the second, made three saves to help keep the game tied.
