No. 10 Dickinson Sneaks Past Men's Soccer, 1-0

WINCHESTER, Va. - The Shenandoah University men's soccer team lost 1-0 behind a late goal from No. 10 Dickinson College on Wednesday night at home in non-conference action.

The nationally-ranked Red Devils (5-0-2) snuck the game-winning goal past the Hornets (1-3-2) in the 83rd minute of play to leave Winchester with the close victory.

IN BRIEF

First-year goalie Jake Ziervogel made an early save for the Hornets, which led to Nick Mattiace working a shot on goal at the other end of the field, which was also saved. Both shots happened in the ninth minute and were the only shots on target for the first half.

Shenandoah applied pressure in the first several minutes of the second half as Mattiace, Hatim Elkhasouani, and James Blalock each picked up an opportunity to score the game's first goal. In the 72nd minute, off a Red Devils' corner, the Hornets' defense came up clutch and cleared a ball from the goal line, keeping the game scoreless.

Immediately following the team save for SU, the Hornets' offense went to work and had three more shots, as they looked to break the tie, but the Red Devils' defense kept the Hornets from scoring.

Finally, in the 83rd minute, Dickinson worked the ball down the line and snuck a shot past SU in the bottom right corner of the cage to take the late lead. Dickinson made one final save in the 85th minute to secure the win.
